
The building is located in the center of Vienna. Work commenced in 1861 and completed in 1865, designed by architects August Sicard von Sicardburg and Eduard van der Null. It was built in the Neo-Renaissance style. It was destroyed during WW II and reopened in 1969.
The previous famed conductors are: Gustav Mahler, Richard Strauss, Karl Bohm, Herbert von Karajan, and Claudio Abbado, the current conductor is Seiji Ozawa(2002-2010).
