Tales of Hoffmann, The

(Contes d'Hoffmann, Les), opera in 3 acts with Prologue music by Offenbach; text by Barbier after the play by Barnier and Carre, founded in turn on stories by E. T. A. Hoffmann; premiered at the Comique-Opera, Paris, Feb. 10, 1881.
Hoffmann tells the story of his three loves. Each act of the opera is one of his 'tales'.

3. His 3rd love was in Munich, fallen in love with a frail young singer.
