The original Metropolitan Opera House, located on Broaway, opened on October 11, 1833, but it closed the door on April 16, 1966. The present new Met Opera House which was designed by Wallace K. Harrison is located in Lincoln Center and opened on September 16, 1966 with the premiere performace of Samuel Barber's "Antonio and Cleopatra".
