Opera in 3 acts by Alban Berg; libretto by composer, after Wedekind's drama "Erdgeist" and "Die Buchse der Pondora". Premiered in Zurich on June 1, 1937. Lulu is a femme fatale who destroys all her lovers-though there is little love in any of the transactions, except from rhe Countess Geschwitz. Eventually she comes to London as a prostitute, and is killed by Jack the Ripper.
