Opera in 5 acts by Honegger and Jacques Ibert, libretto by Henri Cain; premiered in Opera de Monte-Carlo in 1937.
L'Aiglon was the nickname of Napoleon's son, Napoleon II of France. The name is French for "Eaglet"(a young eagle).
